Reflections
What initially started out as a project idea stemming from a tiny tiger trinket above my desk quickly evolved into a collection of stories, a collaborative effort driven by conversation. This project has undergone numerous adjustments and alterations since its original proposal back in the fall semester- a reflection of its demands for adaptability and rolling with the punches. Yet throughout the process, the notion of community stood out to me beyond anything else. A small community was built as a result of this project, composed of individuals who spoke of their own cultural, familial communities.
To commemorate and build upon this notion of community, I am currently aiming to organize two events by the end of March. The first event will revolve around food, one of the objects brought up by interviewee Leo Hidy, to bring together project participants for an evening of open dialogue and appreciation- as this project would not be possible without them. The second event will be broader, spanning the greater Oberlin community, with the aim of showcasing the project and subsequently fostering dialogue regarding cultural identity and material culture.

I hope to continue building upon this project in the future- if not quite literally by continuing to produce art as a means of amplifying voices, then by cultivating my interviewing and documenting skills!
Thank you again Oberlin Shansi and all project participants for this incredible opportunity and experience!
